2015 Resolutions

Resolution # 1

 

Whereas: Canola Public Plant Breeding is known to benefit all segments of society, as well as the farm community, especially the stakeholders, the Western Canadian Canola Producer;

 

And Whereas:  The major cost of Canola production, in recent years has become the Annual Cost of Canola seed;

 

And whereas:  Current Federal Plant Breeders Legislation and the proposed Bill C-18 will further strengthen the industry position by way of enshrining farmers PRIVILEGE rather than farmers RIGHT to save seed for their reuse;

 

Be It resolved; That the Manitoba Canola Growers Association (MCGA), invest annuallyin sufficient monetary amount(s), from their general reserve fund, in Public Canola Plant Breeding through various Accredited Prairie Based Universities and/or other Accredited Public Research Organizations, with the end goal of owning and controlling Canola varieties for Western Canadian Canola Producers, not only for the short term, but also for the long term benefit of Western Canadian Canola Producers.

Resolution # 2

 

Whereas the cost of Canola seed is a major part of the cost of Canola production to farmers,

 

Be it resolved that MCGA make a very strong effort to get the Canadian Canola Growers Association to invest a portion of their net revenue as well as a large part of their largereserve fund into public plant breeding for Canola with the goal of Western Canadian Farmers owning these varieties and collecting any royalties which may result from this development.
