Advocating for Canola Farmers: Manitoba Canola Farmers on the Hill in Ottawa

On November 4, Manitoba canola farmers joined national and provincial partners in Ottawa for Lobby Day, a full day dedicated to elevating farmer voices and advocating for policies that strengthen Canadian agriculture.

Representing the Manitoba Canola Growers Board, two farmers travelled to Parliament Hill to meet with elected officials, political staff, and government representatives from all major parties. Working in coordinated teams alongside our national and provincial canola partners, participants engaged in thoughtful, direct conversations with policymakers at every level of government.

Throughout the day, farmers highlighted key issues shaping the future of canola production in Manitoba. Discussions centred on the impact of ongoing trade disruptions, the need for predictable and competitive market access, and the rapidly evolving opportunities within the biofuels sector.

The day was busy, productive, and filled with strong advocacy. In dozens of meetings across the Hill, Manitoba farmers shared their experiences, provided practical insight grounded in life on the farm, and reinforced the importance of policies that support a resilient and sustainable canola sector.

Events like Lobby Day showcase the strength and unity of Canada’s canola industry and the impact of bringing farmer perspectives directly to decision-makers. The Manitoba Canola Growers Board is proud to stand alongside our partners at the Canadian Canola Growers Association, Canola Council of Canada, Alberta Canola and Sask Oilseeds in championing the priorities of Manitoba farmers.
