Maximizing Hybrid Potential: Targeting Traits to Improve Yield and Consistency

December 13, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Free

Seed companies provide excellent genetic solutions to many of the disease and harvest challenges, but those traits need proper stewardship to protect them. Hybrid decisions should be based on the best traits for each field. Stewardship to protect disease resistance traits through rotation of resistance sources will help maintain canola productivity in key growing regions across Western Canada. Genetic decisions can do a lot to preserve yields, and higher yields per acre have a strong sustainability benefit. The panel will discuss the value behind growing clubroot resistant hybrids, how to use genetic testing to utilize blackleg resistance genes, introduce the new pod shatter system, and discuss how to prioritize traits on farm.
