Event and Communications Coordinator

The Manitoba Canola Growers Association (MCGA) is looking to hire an individual to fill a term position as Event and Communications Coordinator.  MCGA is a non-profit organization committed to maximizing net income from canola.

The successful applicant will be responsible for managing, monitoring and enhancing communications with farmers through MCGA’s website, social media outlets, radio spots, newsletters, press releases and events.  They will assist in the organization and implementation of programs designed for farmer development and consumer awareness.  They will also coordinate the Canola Learning Centre (CLC) including supervision and training of the CLC summer student.

The Events and Communications Coordinator will report to the Executive Manager.  MCGA is looking for a person with a university degree in agriculture, education, communications or completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school in a similar area or equivalent work experience.  This individual must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.  They must be internal motivated, well organized, confident with technology, and comfortable working with people.  This position is home based and requires some evening, weekend and overnight travel.  Having access to a vehicle is required.

Event and Communications Coordinator

General Accountability

This is a term full time position with the Manitoba Canola Growers.  This position is responsible for managing communication strategies and programs aimed to spread positive canola based information to help farmers maximize their net income from canola and increase awareness amongst consumers.

This position reports directly to the Executive Manager of the Manitoba Canola Growers Association.

Specific Accountabilities:

  1. Work with the MCGA team and designers to maintain a strong unified MCGA brand.
  2. Manage and create content for the Manitoba Canola Growers website. canolagrowers.com
  3. Promote, format and deliver electronic newsletters.
  4. Manage, monitor and enhance communications through social media outlets, radio spots and press releases.
  5. Manage and coordinate the Canola Learning Centre. Duties include taking all bookings, training and managing the CLC summer student, managing the budget and overseeing program details.
  6. Manage and coordinator Curl Manitoba sponsorship for the Manitoba Canola Growers Junior Curling Championships.
  7. Act as content provider for MCGA’s two page spread in the Canola Digest publication which comes out quarterly.
  8. Manage, promote and deliver MCGA’s high school scholarship program.
  9. Manage, assist and support staff with the use of the SugarCRM database.
  10. Work as a team with the Members Relations Coordinator to deliver farmer focused networking and learning opportunities.
  11. Support other staff with project work as required.

Qualifications:

  1. A university degree in agriculture, education, communication or completion of a diploma training program at a college or technical school in a similar area or equivalent work experience.
  2. An enthusiastic team player with solid interpersonal, organizational, and team building skills.
  3. Self starter who is flexible and motivated to grow and develop new relationships.
  4. Someone with strong computer and technical skills. Understanding of WordPress and social media platforms is an asset.
  5. Ability to work from home and the flexibility to travel to meetings and conferences.
  6. Required to have a valid class 5 Manitoba Driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
